We had so much fun celebrating Lunar New Year, or Tet as it ‘called in Vietnam, at home as a family. This is one of the biggest holidays in Vietnam, and we try to celebrate it each year.
The kids favorite part of Tet was the red envelopes. Every Lunar New Year in Vietnam, and much of Asia, children are given red envelopes with money in them. The kids were so excited, and Rhett was extra excited because somehow I had accidentally put extra money in his haha
I tried to keep it simple, but fun and cute. The dragons were one of the kids favorite parts. They were a cheap, cute find off of Amazon (click here to see them). The kids loved playing with them and dancing them around. We also incorporated gold coins, oranges, small trees (bonsai),flowers, and of course, amazing food. That week was a busy one for us so I just got takeout from a local Chinese place and the kids loved it!
Tet is actually a long holiday, with different events happening over the course of a week, but this year we kept it smaller, especially since we couldn’t go to local celebrations because of Covid.
We ended our night by watching “Over the Moon” which was adorable and the kids loved. I didn’t realize it had Phillipa Soo in it which was a bonus since we’ve been obsessed with Hamilton ever since it came out on Disney+ last year. Happy Lunar New Year!
