This is my best friend, Lyndsey. This is us back when we were just young fashionistas:
And here’s one where we’re just teens hanging out at the lake and my future husband is chilling three feet away:
The point is, we go way back. Lyndsey and I have known each other since birth and she is a part of so many of my favorite memories. One of those random memories that I have always kept with me is that when we were kids, her mom always had this awesome bucket that was filled with leftover cereal, and then she’d mix in marshmallows or other sweet things to make it into a snack. I remember we’d get our one baggie full, and then try and sneak back for more. It was so good.
Now, I love snacking on cereal, and my boys have it as snacks all the time, especially when they are babies, it’s one of the first solids they learn to eat. When I saw CheeriosTM was doing a “buy a box, gift a box” promo at Walmart, I knew I wanted to send it to Lyndsey. Lynds now has an adorable little girl the age of Rhett who I’m sure loves to snack on them too.
You can get nostalgic (cause, who didn’t eat CheeriosTM as a kid?) and gift your own box of Cheerios™ when you buy one of their specially marked boxes exclusively at Walmart.
After buying the Apple Cinnamon Cheerios ™, I wanted to get crafty and whip up some kind of cereal snack of my own with them. I filled a bowl with about 9 or so cups of cheerios, and in a separate bowl microwaved a whole bag of white chocolate chips with about fourth of a stick of butter. (Can you tell I’m one of those cooks who goes off how it looks and taste, not exact measurement?)
I microwaved it in 30 second increments until it was melted, added about a teaspoon of vanilla, and poured it on the Cheerios™. After mixing it in, I poured on about a cup and a half of powdered sugar and then let it cool off for a few minutes until I got too impatient. Then I added a whole bag of chocolate candies (two bags would probably be better, honestly), and some pretzel sticks. You could throw in any candy you like. It was delicious and made for a great treat that we threw in bags to take on the go, but we saved about half for a cute little fall-style treat. The great thing is it will last well in plastic baggies or you can have it in cute cups like I did for a party or school thing. A little sweet, a little salty, and super good. I was sneakin extra scoops just like I did back in the day.
Anybody else remember sneaking snacks as a kid? Or was that just me?
As you may have heard, some select boxes of Cheerios™ and Honey Nut Cheerios™ produced over two weeks in July at the Lodi, California plant, have been recalled due to a wheat allergen. This recall only affects consumers with Celiac disease or a gluten-sensitivity. To learn more about the recall, and if your product is affected please go to: http://blog.generalmills.com/

These treats look super yummy! I also love those papers you put around them! I also happen to be a pretty big fan of Lyndsey too 😉

I totally snuck snacks as a kid! I think my biggest sneaks that backfired were eating the filling out of cookies and licking the coating off of chips. Hard to see how I got busted… #client
