Hi Friends! Today I want to share with you a new look at my families lake house that we stay at every weekend during the summer. These new floors are something I’m so excited about and if you have kids or a lake house or are just re-flooring your house, I highly suggest this flooring. I know one thing every family tries to figure out is what floors can last a long time and withstand everything they will throw at them. I can honestly say these floors are so great for home, lake houses, sunrooms, and anywhere else you might need really beautiful and durable floors! If you have kids who play outside and then run inside with their muddy feet to show you a frog they found, these floors are for you (and me).
This lake lot has been in my family for about twenty years now, and in that time it has evolved from very basic (think a toilet on a wood platform surrounded by a shower curtain) to being a beautiful space that we enjoy bringing our family out to. One thing that hasn’t changed much in this little lake cabin, however, is the floors.
For a long time, the lake house has had simple plywood floors that were painted white. They did their job of being flat and giving you something hard to walk on, but that was about it. They weren’t very pretty to look at, and they definitely were not a permanent solution. This room gets a lot of traffic in the summer because it leads to the nearest bathroom from the lake, so when considering flooring options, we knew we needed something that was durable and could withstand lots of dripping wet friends running in to use the bathroom.
Earlier this month, I was approached about a new line of flooring, ProGen by Tarkett. It had everything we needed- durable, waterproof, and resistant to sunlight. Those are all things that any lake house needs because who wants to worry about hassling your friends or family to dry off every time they step inside? I loved the idea of being able to just relax and have fun instead of worry about if our kids or dog were going to ruin the floors. Another really cool feature is that these floors are 100% reclaimable.
We were excited to see what ProGen could look like in our home, and I couldn’t help but take a peek inside the boxes when they came. We chose to install Pacific Mandrone, it’s a beautiful warm-toned wood color with very natural variation. I fell in love with the picture online, but it’s even prettier in person. The ProGen line has a lot of different options, with some great, up-to-date designs that would be beautiful in any home. For all my DIY fans out there, this is definitely a product that you can install yourself. Tarkett’s ProGen line doesn’t require any fancy tools, and can be cut with just a utility knife. We’ve helped lay floors before, and this was by far the easiest floor we’ve ever installed. The underlayment is already attached, and it doesn’t require any acclimation time, which was a huge time saver for us. We were able to open it up and install it without waiting any time for the boards to acclimate. DIY Flooring is really easy to do when you have a product as easy to work with as these were.
Look at the difference in those floors! Our plain in laying the floors was for the kids to play and Brandon and I could work on the floor together. I should have known that wouldn’t work because as soon as we started opening the flooring boxes, the kids took off for the lake and I had to go with them. Instead of having to wait for the kids to get tired out, Brandon begun working and ended up flooring the entire room himself in way less time than I expected. Home renovations are a lot more fun when they go by fast and the product is great to work with!
Can you believe what a difference it makes just going from the old floors to a beautiful flooring?
I absolutely love the variation in this flooring. I feel like it looks like the just cut a tree right down the middle, and this is what was there. It’s really warm toned and so pretty.
As for the home decorating, I love the décor that has evolved here. My home décor at home is very neutral, and I really like to work in meaningful pieces. This lake house is no different. My Mom has hung some cute accents, and we’ve mixed in some family pieces.
That little Bacon press is a family item that came down through my Dad’s family. Growing up it was always sitting next to the oven in our house.
The spurs were a pair of my Aunt’s that used to hang in Sawyer’s room when he was a baby. We didn’t have a place for them recently, so my Mom added them to the décor in this room and I love that they are back on a wall instead of hiding in a drawer somewhere.
Now that everything is back in place and the flooring is down, we’re ready for weekends of fun at the lake. Sawyer and the dog came in while I was taking pictures, and it was so nice to be able to let them just run around even though they were wet.
I would actually encourage your kids to wrestle in wet swimsuits with your wet dog on this flooring. It’s that great. Let’s just take one last look at the before and after:
I have been swooning over these floors ever since and can’t wait to get back out to the lake to enjoy them! If you are looking for flooring for your new house or for a home renovation, check out the different flooring designs they have at Tarkett Progen.
