School has been back in for three weeks now and we are finding our new groove, and getting all kinds of things done. Sawyer is probably my easiest child, just because he’s older and doesn’t need as much help with every little thing, and yet I’m always amazed at how much easier everything is with just one less kid.
(more about all that Mrs. Meyers goodness later)
Ford has been doing speech therapy since about January. At his two year old appointment last October, we realized that he was behind in his speech (and by behind, I mean he really could only saw “Mom” and “Dad.” That’s pretty far behind the norm for his age. Throughout his time in speech, they realized he was also low on his receptive language, and we got him in and had his hearing tested. Turns out the poor kid has had a ton of fluid in his ears constantly, so everything sounds muffled and like he’s underwater. It has been a little better over the summer, and he’s talking much more and much clearer, but the fluid is still there so he’ll be getting tubes put it in a few weeks. It’s a quick, easy surgery so we’re looking forward to his ears clearing up (and the possibility that he might actually listen to what we tell him to do now!).
We’ve decided not to put Rhett in pre-school, and just to continue teaching him at home. He already knows everything to meet the Kindergarten standards and gets tons of playtime with other kids, so we’re taking advantage of this last year of having him at home. We are doing one day a week where Rhett and Ford both go play at my Sister-in-laws house, which means I get a little break for a few hours, and I’ve got no complaints about that! I’m looking forward to some new D.I.Y. and home décor post for the blog, I’ve got some great ideas that I can’t wait to share!
