You guys know that our Goldendoodle Shelby is one spoiled pup. As the only other girl in a house of boys, I love buying her pretty dog things and fluffy beds even if she chooses to sleep on my sweatshirt instead. Another way I try to take good care of her is by giving her monthly heartworm, flea, and tick medicine. It’s not my favorite aspect of dog ownership because it is a lot of work.
When we got her, her previous owners showed me how to cover her medicine in peanut butter and then try and get her to swallow it. No matter what I tried, she almost always ended up taking it and then spitting it out on the other side of the kitchen.
Since she’s such a stinker about taking her medicine, I was excited when we got the chance to try Pinchers. Pinchers are a simple but awesome invention- they are basically a dog treat but with a little space inside for hiding a dog pill. They make it so easy to give the pills and so easy for her to take them!
The first time I tried Pinchers with Shelby she was at my feet waiting for a treat before I even put the pill in. I gave her one empty one just to get her appetite going (they’re only 10 calories so no worries about fattening her up) and she loved it. Once the pill was in she was ready for another one and for the first time ever- ate her medicine without a fight! No holding her in place to make sure she took it, no trying to cover her pill in messy peanut butter and no watching her spit it out a minute later and having to start over.
I’m so grateful for awesome companies that make my life easier. Pinchers are made with Probiotics that support digestive and immune health and they are easy to form around most dog medicines. The Peanut Butter flavor they come in is a favorite for Shelby and mask the smell of her medicine.
I also loved that it is so easy to fit them around dog medicine, so your hands aren’t left all sticky or covered in a mess. With the holidays being so busy, Pinchers are easy to buy from your favorite online shops that you can find here. Let me know in the comments what you’ve tried for getting your dog to take their medicine!
