Last year, when we were in the middle of the adoption process, we went really small on birthdays and holidays. We don’t go over the top for birthdays ever, but I had promised Rhett that when he turned six we would have a birthday party where he could invite all his friends from school. He has been a champ missing out on the second half of kindergarten, all the field trips and fun parties, but this one stung a little. He’d been talking about his birthday for so long, so we made sure to do something still special back on his birthday in May and have a few decorations and cake and presents. He was so happy and forgot completely about all of his big “friend party plans.” I love this tender-hearted boy!
He got to spend his birthday at his favorite place doing his favorite thing-fishing. He told me about 100 times that it was the best day ever. It’s the little things that make life the best!
