My kids switch up their sleeping spaces more than anyone I know. One day Rhett and Sawyer will sleep together, then the next day Rhett and Toan will share a room, then Ford and Sawyer will sleep in that room, etc etc. In the past I haven’t minded, but lately they’ve been waking up more at night so we’ve been working on more permanent sleeping arrangements, and then on the weekends they get to move around and have sleepovers in each others rooms. I’ve been slowly pulling together Sawyer and Rhett’s new room, turning it from a guest room into their big-kid room. The space is pretty small, so I wanted to keep it pretty minimal but still feel cozy. It’s finally ready and they moved into it a few weeks ago and everyone has been sleeping great!
Their beds were an amazing Facebook Marketplace find. They aren’t an exact match but look very similar. I got one for $30 and it was in like-new condition and got the other for free because it needed some repairs. I fixed the parts of the broken one and painted them both Charcoal Black with a milk paint. I’ll be honest, no product endorsements here. The paint was okay to paint on but even after curing it came off so easily, even though it said it didn’t need any kind of top coat. I couldn’t even touch them with my hands for two weeks without paint coming off, so I won’t be sharing what product I used because I wouldn’t wish it upon any of you. It made the whole room makeover take about four times longer than it should have.
The dresser was another great antique off the Facebook Marketplace that I got for cheap. I spray painted it black using this spray paint and then added these pretty bronze handles to match the mirror. I’ll probably hang the mirror eventually but for now, I’m liking the resting look. I bought the little piece of wood on the left to write something on but Sawyer liked it plain, so plain it is for now.
The bedding was what started the idea of this room in the first place. I knew we would be turning the guest bedroom into their room soon and wasn’t sure what design I wanted to go with. I fell in love with these green striped quilts from the Hearth & Hand line at Target and bought the matching shams off the Facebook Marketplace because they didn’t have any in my store. The accent pillows were a great find from H&M that ties the colors and feel of the room together. The Nightstand was another great Facebook Marketplace find (can you tell I love the Facebook Marketplace?)
Pretty much all of the wall decor (except the mirror) came from Home Goods. Sawyer really wanted a large picture of him and Rhett, so I framed one from last summer in a large poster frame and the pictures above the right bed is actually one of a series that I fell absolutely in love with and bought. There wasn’t room for both in this bedroom but when we move someday (currently on the hunt for a new house) I’m hoping they’ll both fit in the boys bedroom.
