Last week most of Brandons siblings were together so we loaded up the kids and all took a trip down to Florida together. We’ve never taken a trip with just his immediate family (the siblings, spouses, parents, and all the kids) and the kids have been looking forward to it for weeks. We loved where we went (an awesome campground I’ll share more about later) and it was close enough to the beach and some other cool places to just do day trips. Brandon’s Mom was my hero and did ALL of the food for the trip which meant all we really had to do was play and have fun!
The first day we were there we looked up the nearest beach and took off. A common theme of our trip was that a lot of places look way cooler in their reviews and I’ll admit, when we pulled up to Fort Island State Park, I was underwhelmed. I’m used to the sprawling, wide open, hardly busy beaches like Jekyll Island and Naples and when I saw how tiny it was I was worried everyone would be dissapointed haha. I was completely wrong though because this little man made beach ended up being perfect for corralling the 14 grandkids. It is just a small horseshoe shaped bay with floats across the opening and it wasn’t very deep so there wasn’t really anywhere for the kids to run off to or get into danger.
The kids played all morning and afternoon and we all got plenty of sun (and plenty of sunburns). Toan was in Heaven on the boogie boards which two of his cousins pulled him on pretty much non-stop all day.
Sawyer and Rhett ran around boogie boarding, swimming, catching crabs, and getting buried in the sand.
Ford spent pretty much his whole day building monster truck sand tracks with cousins. These boys loves anything with wheels.
The water was wayyyy too cold for me (As I’ve said before, cold weather or water is not for me) so I played in the sand, ate food, and got my tan on.
Missed opportunity- I should have taken a picture with Ford when I had his hat on haha. We definitely made the most of this little beach. It may be different than any beach I’ve seen but it ended up being perfect.
